10: Homeless Bird

I read this book for a bookclub. It was good, but a lot of sad things happen. It is about a thirteen year old named Koly. When she turnes thirteen, she gets married of to an unknown boy. When she finally meets him, she finds that he is sickly and weak. It's to late to back out of the marriage, so she ends up marring him. When he dies, she is stuck as a widow in a family that doesn't like her. When her father-in-law dies and her half-sister gets married, her mother-in-law gets a job far away from where they are living. Her mother-in-law accepts the job and brings Koly along with her. She stops along the way and they both leave the train. Koly goes to get food and when she comes back her mother-in-law is gone. She is abandoned in a big city. In the end, she remarries.
